Every year on my birthday, I try to envision what my next year will look like. Most years, this is a pretty straightforward exercise. Last year, for example, it was “school, work, school, work, get married, school.” And do you want to know what I did last year? I was in school, I worked, then I was back in school (while working part-time), then worked full-time again, got married, and then ended in school again. Straightforward, I tell ya.
Last week, though, on my 28th birthday, I blanked. I’ll be in school, sure. I’ll work again, you betcha. After that, graduation! And the bar exam! But then…what?
A whole lot of uncertainty, that’s for sure.
After the excitement of graduation and the stress/panic of studying and sitting for the bar are over, there are really only two things I am sure of: I won’t be a student anymore (or ever again, I swear), and I will be an official adult.
Now, I’ve been an “adult” before. After undergrad, I worked a full time job. I bought a car. I paid my own bills. I co-habitated. I (kind of) had it figured out. It was a different kind of adult, though- I knew I was going back to school at some point, so I didn’t really feel the pressure of having to have everything figured out.
Over the next few years, life is going to get crazy. I want to use this blog as a way to document the ups, downs, and in-betweens of my journey to figuring this whole adult thing out. I hope you join me as I begin my Starter Life.
